Wiltshire Primary Mentor Scheme Volunteer Mentor

This is a volunteer role not paid employment.

Wiltshire’s Primary Mentoring Scheme is providing a mentoring programme for primary school age pupils who are at risk of developing social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The aim of the scheme is to improve resilience and the emotional wellbeing of children by providing support, positive guidance and encouragement. This will help children to achieve their goals and aspirations. The Volunteer Mentor will support each child on the areas identified in their individual mentoring plan which could include areas like self-esteem, friendships, bullying, anxiety and transitioning to secondary school.

We are looking for people aged 18 and over with excellent listening and communication skills and an understanding of the issues facing young people today. The volunteer will need to be patient, flexible, committed, and reliable as well as having common sense, good empathy skills, a sense of fun and the willingness to try something new.

If successful, relevant training will be given and you will be required to apply for a disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Our volunteers gain a great deal of satisfaction in making a difference to a child/young person’s life. It is also a great opportunity for volunteers to develop new skills and to gain experience in the field of working with children.
