Queensberry Footbridge, Bridge no. 2055 – Replacement Works

Queensberry Footbridge, Bridge no. 2055 – Replacement WorksChurch Street, Amesbury, Wiltshire, SP4 7EU

The existing footbridge was installed during the late 1950’s to carry the footway of Church Street and to what was then a busy trunk road though Amesbury. Typical of similar structures the steel tubular truss sections now have considerable corrosion at critical elements and refurbishment is not an option. In consultation with Amesbury Town Council a replacement footbridge is currently being fabricated and our contractors are preparing to replace the footbridge during May 2018.

Before the footbridge is to be replaced, SSE Contractors will temporarily remove overhead cables, lighting and poles. The bridge replacement works are expected to take 3 weeks to complete. Pedestrians will be diverted onto the main highway bridge and traffic will be controlled under 2-way temporary lights. There will be 2 x 1day full road closures to enable our contractors to lift out the existing footbridge and lift in the new replacement footbridge. These dates will be advertisted on site in advance and there will be a full diversion route in place.
